WHEN/ August 13, 1871 - January 15, 1919 WHERE/ Born in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany. Died in Berlin as result of the Spartacist Uprising at the hands of the Freikorps INTERESTING FACT/ One of his papers 'Militarismus und Antimilitarismus' against militarism, would lead to his arrest in 1907, imprisoned for 18 months in Glatz, Prussian Silesia, where he still managed to become elected into Prussian parliament, despite still being in prison. ROSA LUXEMBURG WHO/ Rosa Luxemburg, a revolutionary socialist, had supported German involvement in World War I, and was the co-founder of the Spartacist League in 1918. WHEN/ March 5, 1871 - January 15, 1919 WHERE/ Born in Zamosc, Poland. Died in Berlin as a result of the Spartacist Uprising at the hands of the Freikorps. Rosa's body was thrown into the Landwehr Canal in Berlin and recovered days later. INTERESTING FACT/ Rosa would co-found the newspaper 'Die Rote Fahne' (The Red Flag), that became the central organ of the Spartacist movement. |
